Apple Valley Book Festival
Nov. 2005

In early November somewhere between fifty and a hundred authors, artists, and vendors descended on beautiful Martinsburg, WV for the first ever Apple Valley Book Festival.  The weather was crisp and clear.  The company was interesting and entertaining.  I had a wonderful time mingling with readers and writers.  You'll see below there were a gang of us that met for the first time and ended up spending most of the weekend hanging out together.  Of course the highlight of this event was really the setting.  The Roundhouse, where most of us were set up, is an amazing old building that is in the process of being restored.

The Roundhouse in Martinsburg, WV

This amazing building was the site for many of the writers in town for the festival. It was a bit nippy (no heat!) but what a beautiful old building.

Laurin inside the Roundhouse

I got a primo spot. You couldn't miss my table when you walked into the Roundhouse.

Entrance to the Roundhouse

This is from just inside the main entrance. That's my table straight ahead on the right.

Left of entrance.

Right of entrance.

Opposite view.

This is from the opposite side of the Roundhouse, looking back at the entrance.

Roundhouse turntable from behind my table.

A roundhouse was a place where train engines could be turned around. So, there's a huge turntable/lazy susan sort of thing in the middle of this big, round building with train tracks leading off of it. Cool, and really deep!

Roundhouse Ceiling

The ceiling was the absolute best thing about this building. The entire interior has recently been sandblasted and is in the process of being restored. The ceiling is like a piece of art.

The Roundhouse Gang

I met these folks my first day in Martinsburg and we spent the better part of three days enjoying each other's company. From the left: Claudette Milner, Tricia - Amey's buddy, Amey Tippett, D.L. Edwards, Dan Mace, Robert Amoroso and down front Pat Perry.

Robert Amoroso was nice enough to share this picture with me. From left: Claudette Milner, Tricia, Amey Tippett, D.L. Edwards, Laurin Wittig, and down front Pat Perry.

There we are again with the addition of Dan's artist wife Shiela. From left: Laurin Wittig, Tricia, Amey Tippett, D.L. Edwards, Pat Perry, Dan Mace and Shiela Mace. Robert Amoroso provided this picture, too!
